Solitary

Postby soxtalon » Thu Apr 16, 2015 4:04 am

Thought there was a thread but a cursory search and I don't see anything. From an interview earlier today:

Roger Interview about Solitary

"There is a song at the beginning," he explains, "but that was actually written by my son and my daughter. There is a song at the very end credits, which is me. All the rest is film music. I don't really see it having much life outside the film. It is purely for the movie."

Taylor wasn't present throughout shooting. He visited the sets from time to time and used the footage to inspire his music. Solitary appears to have been relatively easy to shoot and the cast and crew have been encouraged by the reception it received earlier this year at the Idyllwild Festival in California, where it won several awards.

There are TWO songs in the film. One in the beginning which he says was actually written by his son and daughter! (NOTE he didn't clarify WHICH son and daughter...You would think Rufus BUT Felix is in the film if briefly so it *COULD* be Felix. I have never heard of a daughter of Rog's doing anything musical) He also didn't clarify if HE performed said song or if it was a song they recorded and he used as musical director.

The second song would be over the ending credits and is *HIS*. SO at LEAST ONE Roger song. BUT my pessimistic side about their productivity in their twilight years and their more recent proclivity to reuse tracks makes me think I won't be surprised if he just uses something from Fun On Earth...BUT hopefully not - Hopefully it's a new Rog track :)

Trivia quote about the film...

Actresses Anita Dobson and Sarina Taylor, are both married to members of the rock band Queen.
What is left of your dream?
Just the words on your stone.
A man who learnt how to teach,
But forgot how to learn.

I'm done with running
And it's getting dark in here~

Just saw on my Facebook feed that Solitary is going to be available on iTunes and Amazon etc on November 1st. No word on the soundtrack but at least you can hear the music!

On the subject of soundtracks...wasn't there another film Roger did some work for in the last year or two? Think it was about some kind of end of the world thing..? I can't remember. Maybe I'm getting confused with this film.

I remember thinking that I'll find out more about it when it comes out but I've either missed it completely or I just imagined it

I believe you are thinking of Brian doing the soundtrack for 51 Degrees North. Again no soundtrack. At one point as a kickstarter there was going to be a vinyl release of a soundtrack but the kickstarter didn't work out. The film has been shown at a few events but not much has been said of the soundtrack itself.

A brief bit of it is on YT

Roger did provide an unreleased title track to the film, Absolutely Anything - I haven't seen the film but it is supposedly pretty bad. There wasn't a soundtrack to it either and there was only a snippet in the beginning of the film. That's on youtube.

Yep, that's the film I was thinking of. Shame about the Kickstarter. I know neither of these film soundtracks would be massive commercial hits but thought they might still be worth a physical release(or any kind of release) just on the basis of the composers.

Oh well, one for the BM boxset and the next Roger Taylor boxset...
