Your Top 3 Queen Solo Albums

Postby Leigh Burne » Thu Sep 01, 2016 4:31 pm

Looked for a thread on this but couldn't find one. Thought it could make for an interesting poll. Per the title, what are you three favourite albums to come out of the various Queen members' solo/side projects?

Fun in Space is my favourite. Some good stuff on that. Apart from Barcelona it, to me, is the only solo album that I find a real departure from what you'd expect. Everything else is pretty comfortable pop or rock but Fun in Space was just a little bit unusual.

I loved Brixton. Couldn't believe it when I got it back in the 90s. All these Queen songs sung by Brian with women on BVs giving the songs a completely fresh feel...thought it sounded amazing. It was louder than all the other CDs I had at the time. Think I messed my hearing up a little because I always had my Walkman on full volume. Wasn't sure if this would count but it's in the poll so I guess so. That's my second favourite.

Barcelona is third. Again, just a bit of a departure from what you might expect from the singer of a global rock band (at least to the uninitiated) but was just really good all the way through, I thought.

Looking for info and am unable to find anything at all. Not here or on the net. I have a song by Freddie Mercury and it seems to not exist. But how can this be? I have it. The song is called "Everyday". Does anyone know this song? It is a slow, bluesy sounding song. Would love info. And also willing to private chat somehow. Been driving me crazy for years. A friend has all Queen albums and never heard of it. Listened to it and says it is definitely Mercury singing.

Give us a clue.

There's not anything in the catalogue titled "Everyday", so could you give us the lyrics or something more than just a suspected title?

It's always possible that we know it as something else, or it's by someone who just "sounds" like Freddie.

Trust me, there's plenty of instances out there where people are absolutely convinced Freddie's done some guest vocals on something, that he never got within about three thousand miles of, Andrew Gold - Never Let Her Slip Away, and Leo Sayer - Thunder In My Heart to name but two.

Thanks Kes, I just did a soundhound and it comes up as "Queen - Lost Opportunity (B-Sides)". Not sure why I didn't think of it before. Says it is on Innuendo. It isn't. Not even sure where I got it. I don't have all their albums just most. Brian May: lead vocals, guitars, keyboards -- John Deacon: bass guitar -- Roger Taylor: drums .

Lyrics...
With the morning I face the sun
I lift my head and smile for everyone
Every afternoon you'll find me working on
I got my new shoes on
Got to be moving on
That's what they say
Every night I'm tossed
And I shake my fevered brow
Thinking of my lost opportunity

Yes every morning I face the sun
I get so positive with everyone
Every afternoon you'll find the cracks showing through
They know what I'm going through
Oh yes they do
Every evening finds me
The optimist behind me
On with my lost opportunity

OK, a little history about the song.

AFAIK, recorded around the time the album Innuendo was released, and NOT on any original format of the album. It was however, included on the "extended" formats of the second single from the album 'I'm Going Slightly Mad' as a 'C' side. The normal 'B' side to the single, on the 7" was 'The Hitman'. It was also included on the 'Headlong' CD single in Japan. When the albums were reissued in 2011 for UMG, the song made the second track of the bonus EP included with the expanded edition of the album.

The lead vocals on it, are by Brian May, the song's principle writer, and don't seem to feature Freddie at all.
