Brian and Kerry Ellis - Parisienne Walkways
I presume this great cover version of the Gary Moore classic will be featured on Anthems 2, can't believe this hasn't been mentioned before. It's featured on the new Air Guitar Anthems CD Brian is involved with, enjoy

I had glanced over the tracklisting and somehow completely missed it! Thanks for pointing it out!

I still don't see the logic in taking a particular artist's unquestionable signature song, and then including a version played by totally different musicians (well, actually I do, it's Brian and Kelly getting their names on the track list) on what is presumably meant to be a definitive collection. "Parisienne Walkways" is and always will be Gary Moore, just as much as "Heroes" will always be Bowie.

Why not stick the Muppets version of "Bo Rhap" on there while you're at it?

And while I'm on a winge, Brian's guitar tone really doesn't suit the song at all.

I'll echo that sentiment.

The attraction of Gary Moore's playing on that song, is the purity of the guitar sound. It's like crystal. Brian's is like put through half a dozen distortion pedals (with the loudspeaker from it sat in a toilet bowl, and the microphone sat in the one in the cubicle next door).

Completely incidentally, the instrument Gary Moore played that on, was apparently exactly the same one Peter Green used on Fleetwood Mac's classic instrumental Albatross

....(no, of course you don't get fucking wafers with it!).

Otherwise, interesting track listing. Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, that isn't on THAT many official compilations, I know.

Hmm.. why Bri didn't use a cleaner sound on this track, is for me a mystery. It sounds OK until each break every 5 second, then the scratching sounds like dragging the stylus across a vinyl record spinning on a turntable, with the amplifier turned up to 11 blasting the sound through the loudspeakers.

I think a clean sound like this would have fit the song better.. :

Always thought his version of that was the highlight of the setlist.

It's not often I'll ever say a cover surpasses the original version, but in this case it's pretty bloody close!

As an aside, anyone know if it was particularly cold in the Brixton Academy that evening? I don't think Brian would have been short of anywhere to hang his waistcoat, anyway.

Better than the original I think. Only a pity that Brian May solo albums have all disappeared from Spotify.

Cold... No need to ask the girls, seeing is enough. ;)

And the video is fantastic too, bloody brilliant vocals and backing vocals.

I think I can say with confidence that it is perfect in every possible way. I love the lighting too.

Shelley Preston and Catherine Porter.

A bit of trivia: Shelley took over from Jay Aston when she left Bucks Fizz, if anyone can remember back that far.

Musically, a bit of a long way from Making Your Mind Up to Since You've Been Gone.
