Freddie Mercury The Solo Collection [Poll]

Postby KNIGHT » Thu Mar 29, 2018 2:09 pm

It have been 18 years since the release of Freddie Mercury The Solo Collection. I still think it’s the best box set of Queen related issued items.

A lot of rare tracks, instrumentals, and a set of interesting interviews. A very good documentary and a very nice Video Collection. And don’t forget the very good book.

What is your opinion about this box set.

Can't really give it much less than a 10, seeing how it's almost utterly comprehensive.

Sure, there were a few single mixes missing, and I think The Great Pretender might be a better documentary than the one in the set, but otherwise it's pretty much perfect.

Oh yeah, there's also the fact it didn't come out full of egregious fuck-ups like the Roger and NOTW sets... I guess that's worth some extra points.

It does reference the upcoming Queen anthology. Whatever happened to that?

The biggest annoyance, for me, was that something Freddie actually released "at the time" was missing. The so called Brazilian mix of 'Living On My Own', which was in actual fact the version of the song released on the 12", in just about every country on the other side of the Atlantic. That to me, was probably the most comprehensive exclusion.

Anyway, as regards a similar Queen box, or set of them, don't give up hope. We're possibly closer to the realistic possibility of one happening, than we've ever been before.

For a single item, it’s still the best queen related release there is.

I agree about The Great Pretender is the better documentary but the one on the box set talking about his early life is the best part of it.
