Looks great! :P

I reckon she gets home, strips all her clothes off and dances Northern Soul totally in the nude.

Don't we all? :P

I've been watching more Northern Soul dancing on Youtube tonight. I looked this topic up and I can't believe it was over a year ago that I posted it!

Anyway, best dance ever!! Carry on, let the topic sink again, I will be back in a year to resurrect it. :P

You failed when you posted the Youtube video. QOL'ers are allergic to them.

I always do get the feeling I'm invisible or something. Now I'm sure of it.

Neat trick I guess, but it gets kinda lonely when nobody sees you.

I remember northern soul stuff being played in the club I went to.

Generally an excuse for pissed up people with little self conscience to blindly lurch across the dance floor careering into innocent people out for a night out. The music commonly associated with it never particularly struck me either. The Footsie or whatever it's public face was called. I know, I know, I have since been re-educated that this particular tune was to northern soul what Stock, Aitken & Waterman was to progressive rock.
What is left of your dream?
Just the words on your stone.
A man who learnt how to teach,
But forgot how to learn.

It was new to me as a very impressionable teenager in the mid-seventies. I recall seeing a group of lads doing it at a nearby holiday camp. They attracted a huge audience, as this was obviously new to a lot of people at that time, in our area...and I have to say, that performed well, I still find it beautiful to watch. I guess some of this is nostalgia for that moment in time, that era, but a lot of it is real admiration for their skill. Some people just seem to move with such effortless fluidity on the dance floor, others, like me, just can't do it!

Dancing always amazes me, you would think that they have all been thought of now, but not so, they just keep on evolving.

This is awesome!!

I watched the first one, and parts of this last one, I'll have to come back to it.

Matter of fact, I did a double take at :34, had to watch it again because I could have sworn the young guy in the leather jacket taking a smoke was Freddie. But it wasn't. Very close ringer though.

Interesting fd. It's nice to get a peek into a different culture and share memories with others.

Well, yes, he's certainly 'similar'.

I love these documentaries. They don't mean much to those who weren't there, but to those that were, they hit the spot, big time. I have realised as I have got older that nostalgia can be based on just a few seconds of experience or exposure to something. I have a deep longing to see a Yamaha FS1E or Suzuki AP50 again (they were iconic mopeds from the time), but my exposure to them was very limited at the time...but it's just a very, very deep and meaningful kind of almost lust to want it back, because of the memories of the people and the times that it evokes. I can't explain it really...and it's kind of really sad and really happy. I guess we all go through it, or maybe we don't.

Almost unbelievably, the football match footage early in the documentary was of Norwich vs. Man Utd and the fans were ripping apart Carrow Rd (Norwich ground) and throwing it at the police! It was the only football match that I have ever been to and I am in that shot somewhere, or very, very near-by. I remember it because it appeared on the News on the Monday, on a programme called Nationwide!

I think I know exactly what you mean. I was so excited and nearly in nirvana when I figured out a particular song was that I'd long forgotten the title and the band, and was about to listen to it again for the first time in nearly 40 years. It was because whenever I played this particular song, which turned out to be Anthem by Deep Purple, a particular boy I was mad for showed up at my door - like magic. Right at the words "If the day would only come, then you just might appear, even though you'd soon be gone....."

Something that was only momentary in my long life, but held a memory with so much feeling it ached.
