Radio... someone still loves you?

Postby icy » Sat Sep 30, 2017 3:43 am

Wasn't sure to post this here or AW. BBC Radio 1 is fifty years old.
I'd like to know and a simple yes or no will do as answer...but do you still tune in to radio? Do you still enjoy listening to radio? Yes on both counts for me...though these days I usually tune into apps or streams. I literally have about 35+ apps on my tablet, everything from local stations to overseas stations.
Personally, I'm glad there is still radio, this person still loves it :D .

I haven't listened to the radio ever since I got hooked on the Internet. Prior to that I would listen to radio in hopes of hearing a new song by a favorite artist but nowadays you don't have to listen to hours of songs and commercials you don't want in the chance of hearing the one you want. As soon as it's posted on the 'Net you get to hear it. Your love for radio is shared by the majority of the listening public since streaming is a similar experience (and now makes up 62% of all music consumption) only you have more control.

I listen to Planet Rock relatively regularly, but only through their website as I don't actually own a digital radio!

Yep, it routinely introduces me to great stuff I wouldn't have found otherwise.

Thanks for your input. I really find it very interesting.
Do you think it's better for music now or the old way/s? I can see both pros and cons.

Ironically, I've found out more about new to me new music on the internet. I'm actually quite jealous of the UK radio stations I tune into online, because the mix of music is so different than the same old, same old. I wish I could tune in Planet Rock, it's not compatible with my tablet, even so, I follow it on Facebook.
BBC Radio 2 is a firm favorite...I love the mix of music that is played. It's what I usually listen to in the very early hours when I am awake...such a as right now.

I can remember the first show, that very first song that Tony Blackburn played was one of the reason i got into The Move, Roy Wood, Wizzard and ELO, but now it's Radio 2 for me, which is like Radio 1 from the 60's , 70's & 80's

I listen to radio almost every day. Best show of the week in Johnnie Walker's Sounds of the Seventies, broadcast on BBC Radio 2 every Sunday at 3pm.

A couple of months ago, the local radio station changed formats. Now it's classic rock and pop, which I love. It's a very good change, and I've been tuning in even more.

Definitely pros and cons. The con is that the Internet has decimated the music business. It's not stop looting. Stores closed. People lost jobs. So, actually, as much as I love using the Internet I bitterly accept the new paradigm. I curse Napster.

Only station I listen to regularly, is Absolute. Usually in the car on the drive into work. Their news on the hour, is probably how I find out most of the overnight news.

Sometimes, someone will have a digital radio on out on the shop floor, often on Planet Rock or a similar station, and I do like catching up on Ken Bruce's half past ten quiz on Radio 2, if I'm around when it's on.

I usually only ever listen to the radio whenever I'm doing DIY, housework or indulging in a hobby for which TV would prove to be a distraction. Depending on the mood I require for whichever activity, my choice is either Classic FM or Planet Rock- usually the latter.

Lets go back in time to the:

Lux Radio Theatre. (1939 season)

The Lux Radio Theatre was a one-of-a-kind over the radio show. Consisting of the greatest Hollywood stars doing one-hour versions of their biggest motion pictures, complete with full orchestra, live on stage with a studio audience.
