There's definitely more to it than a simple 'Trump and Farage helped Russia hack the USA and UK' conspiracy, I think.
For a start, Assange's role is very hard to pin down. He came to prominence as a sort of freedom of information hero who exposed governments' hypocrisy, war crimes, etc. He seemed to be essentially a force for good. Now he's being implicated in helping Russia to hack the election, or at least to influence it. SO my only possible explanations are these:
1) He's actually not involved and the Democrats are trying to blame him: But he's an odd choice of a scapegoat, because prior to this, he seemed to be a fairly liberal guy
2) He, for one reason or another, genuinely believed that Trump was the best candidate. That also seems unlikely because Assange is undoubtedly very intelligent and, again, seems to lean towards liberalism
3) Assange is actually an anarchist. There's no reason behind what he does, "some people just want to watch the world burn".
Maybe option 3 is most likely. He doesn't actually care about who wins, he just wants to introduce about of chaos into the proceedings. That's hard for people to reconcile with, because we tend to assume that everyone has an agenda for everything. But look at how quickly Assange went from being a hero, locked up on false charges, to a rapist Russian spy. Maybe the reality is that he's neither. He's not a good guy turned bad; he was never a good guy.
