Pope Benedict XVI to resign Feb. 28

This is the place for topical debate and discussion about anything in the world (non-Queen related).

There are quite a lot of scumbags in showbiz, sadly. I'm as bad as the next man at getting starstruck and forgiving pretty unforgivable activity, although perhaps it's unfair to judge people's behaviour decades ago by today's standards. That probably doesn't apply to Connery though, as I'm pretty sure domestic abuse has been frowned upon for quite some time.

Giving people unfathomable amounts of money to live in a bizarre truman show land does tend to turn out some mental cases yeah. Sean Connery is clearly a misogynist, but I like how he thinks it's okay to hit men too.

The Falklands has nothing to do with this idiot. He can pray if he likes, but that's all he can do.

THe locals voted to stay with UK, let them be.
Pope Francis chose a silver ring instead of a golden one. More simple cross, quite significant after they stopped using the tiara many decades ago.

Personally, I think maybe it's time to give the islands back, but I agree that they have voted and that's the end of the matter. One thing is for certain, it's nothing at all to do with the Pope! Nothing is to do with the Pope in my opinion! ;-)

well the president does her best to keep them (and IMO, geographically, they should be with Argentina, but obviously they feel in a better situation under british rule) and being the Pope (always) an influent head of state and argentine, she threw the clay to the wall.

When Britain established a colony on the Falklands, Argentina was still a colony of Spain. if we had to talk to anyone about sovereignty, it'd be Spain- but they ceded sovereignty to us in 1765 after the French gave the bit of territory they owned to the Spanish. So as far as the Spanish are concerned, it's our colony.

Besides, we used UN resolution 452 (the right of self-determination of a settled colony) to get the backing we needed to take the islands back when Argentina invaded in 1982, and the recent referendum confirms that.

Besides that, the last time the Pope told us what to do was just before Henry VIII told him to f*ck off and started his own church. As a result of that, we've been happily ignoring the papacy since 1533.

Just been watching the inauguration ceremony for this clown. Seriously, I need to get out into the real world, right now, because this is bordering on lunacy.
