What is the universe ?

Brian knows. :P

Seriously though, I've always been fascinated by the universe. There's so much out there beyond our understanding.
I need to get rich so I can go to the moon.

It makes me dizzy to think about the dimensions.

..and is there life out there?

I was reading this article today.

https://www.sciencenews.org/article/eur ... ta-suggest

NASA has proposed a $2 billion mission called the Europa Clipper, but a $230 million cut in planetary science funding this year and more proposed cuts for next year mean there’s no guarantee it will launch. In the meantime, astronomers will scrutinize data from NASA’s Juno probe, which is en route to Jupiter but won’t study Europa in detail, and JUICE, the European Space Agency’s Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer, which will cruise past Europa twice when it arrives around 2030.

Just imagine how much more we could discover if we spent more money on science, and less on wars and other nonsense.

I was watching a TV show a week or so ago, they were talking about some distant stars being 1 billion light years away from Earth  mind blowing.

It's fascinating, how when one looks at an object light years away, they're seeing it as it was when that light left that object. In a way we're looking back in time when we look at stars.

I'll be pondering on that one for awhile.

For as long as I remember I've had a
Spoiler! :
very unscientific
notion that everything that ever was or is,continues to exist in a space and time invisible to us. Although some may at times sense it.

Particular if high levels of energy or emotions were involved in the event.

I do not believe in 'ghosts' in the traditional way, such as reanimated spirits of the dead. This is more along the lines of spent energies forever locked into the scenario that they were expelled into.

I swear I'm not high.
.It is my uppermost hope that even histories' genius's lost their minds as they aged. I'd hate to think that I really am an idiot. sjm

Very good point! Maybe past and present is more connected than we know...

Time and speed seems to be connected. I can only add that our eyes can only see a certain part of the light spectrum, called visible light. Our ears can only hear some frequencies. So we are already limited by natural causes.

I think about this kind of stuff all the time, even when I'm sober. :P

If energy cannot be created or destroyed, where does our energy go when we die? Where was it before we existed? The possibilities are fun to ponder.

Indeed, there's so much beyond our understanding.

I'm not sure if this is a theory or if it's been proven (I'm not a science expert :P ), but if something is large enough in mass, it has an affect on time. Time is said to move at a slightly slower pace if you're standing right beside one of the great pyramids. I saw a discussion on a science program about studying black holes, how if scientists could one day manage to orbit a spacecraft around a black hole, the speed of time would differ greatly on the spacecraft vs. on earth, due to the strong gravity of the black hole. It also talked about the possibilities of time travel due to the connection between speed and time.

I can't remember the details or the name of that program, sorry if my rambling makes no sense. :P

Yes, I heard some scientist say that "time" is something which no-one on earth really understands. It is one of the most difficult topics to explain. And most of us think of time as very simple and natural, but in reality time is very complex and relative, as Einstein found out.

I am also starting to believe that there are several dimensions..

The reason is, we can not explain how the Universe was before the Big Bang, and if God created the Universe, what created God, and where did all the energy come from in the first place ? With our knowledge of the World, this cannot be explained, and we end up in a blind gate. So therefore I think there must be some pretty revolutionary things to be discovered, that we do not have a clue about today.
