Time to quit Facebook!?

Postby TheHero » Sat Oct 28, 2017 10:21 am

I have many times thought about quitting Facebook, and there are many reasons to do so I think. Personally, what keeps me from quitting, is the messenger app, for making appointments etc. If there was a more serious alternative to FB, I think I would quit immediately.

But I guess FB has become too powerful to have competition from other sites, or what are your thoughts on that? Maybe Twitter, but it isn't quite my cup of tea either.

I found this video very good:

I don't think the internet is for you to be honest. You don't like people having a different opinion than your own and resort to dummy spitting and petty insults when they do. I do genuinely feel you are a big, blind lover of Queen, so maybe just leave the discussions and interaction to the grown ups and enjoy listening to your records.

Facebook is a haven for trolls and self obsessed saddos who crave attention. Not pointing the finger at anyone here of course. ;)

Ditto.

The place is over-run with people "giving their opinions", particularly that orange racist, sexist, POTUS twat with the wig, just one who goes to show that the place is for people who just haven't got enough real things going on in their own environment to fill their time. I mean ffs, you have people in the same room writing to each other on Facebook, if that doesn't prove how sad the world's gone, what does? Should be renamed "Anti-social media".

Five minutes a day in this place is enough for most "normal" people.

Indeed. Why do people need to say stuff like "chilling with a lager" or post a picture of the steak they are about to eat?

Stuff such as IM can come in handy, so it's worth keeping for that. You can always reduce your on-line time or choose not to follow people who over-share anyway.

By the way, WhatsApp is way better for instant messaging, and it's got that nice 'quote' option, which I obviously love. Haven't got a mobile phone at the moment, but if and when I get one again, that's the app I'm using.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger did not compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

Being honest, Whatsapp is the only thing like that I use. A good way of sending pictures without getting charged MMS rates.

I'm ahead of the game here. I never joined Facebook, Twitter and nor do I use a mobile phone for anything other than calls. I don't actually 'do' people either which might have a bearing on it... :P

I'm a 'youngster' who quit Facebook this year after being on it since November 2006. Honestly the best decision I ever made. It should be renamed Bragbook.

For those raging on Trump, you're one of the reasons I quit Failbook. So that sword cuts both ways.

I hear ya, PT. I had been there nine years since '09, and quit last month. What a liberating feeling.

I have 2 of my own pages on there, one for jewelry identification where people come to the page to find out if a piece they want to buy or one they already have was made by a specific designer. That goes along with my stand alone Imageevent website which is for the same purpose except it's a lot more difficult for them to show me a piece on the website than it is on Facebook. I also belong to mayb 15 other jewelry groups, mainly to help people, again, in IDing this specific manufacturer/designer because sellers are lying and trying to say anything they get their hands on without a signature was made by that company and that's absolutely untrue. They wind up getting buyers to buy their misnamed (often) junk and the real thing doesn't sell at all. I do get harassed a lot with this as many of these people want to sit and message me, chat, ask questions and some want to call me on the phone or even do video conferencing and I refuse to do either of those. Too busy for one thing and I am not making any money doing this.

I am in charge of 3 Mafia Reloaded pages, as a page admin and am always "running my tail off" in those, letting people on the battlefield, posting daily rewards for my family page and also a page for allied groups.

Then there are the numerous groups I belong to. Maybe 50 raptor groups but I mainly am in the Osprey groups, some for the USA, some are from Wales and Scotland and another in Australia. The Osprey groups are the ones I shoot video for or should I say the livestreams, ustreams and other streaming sites like Explore, running 24/7 and of my own choice as to which nests I video, then upload to youtube.

There are others that are all over the world plus another that's in Estonia. Also Raptor Persecution which is more of an organization that goes after poachers all over the world. Several Hawk groups including one that's a world-wide Hawk ID page, a local birding club here in town, the University Birding Museum and quite a few others, then a few Bald Eagle groups but I don't go to those except the two main ones here in this state. I have my own raptor page that I maintain as well, mainly for holding data I may want to get my hands on right away so I don't have to hunt all over youtube or a group to try to find it.

Then hahaha. All the band pages. The main ones I frequent are Leon Russell's 3 biggest pages and X Japan has quite a few various pages. My group of X friends meet up on our message board, quite like this one also has a page for translations of interviews and such, on Facebook. Why, I'm not sure. I really prefer to read it on the board.

We have people in South Korea, Hungary, Germany, Netherlands, France, Spain and one gal in England and a bunch that I know are foreign to me but I don't know where they're from as they're not around a lot. We have our own private Discord and on Saturdays, we have another place we go to watch a concert of our choice after we have all voted.

That's about it, I guess. Carry on.

And you all didn't think I was busy... :P

Well, I cannot quit Facebook because I need to update new information from my family and also my friends. But instead of spending a lot of time surfing on FB, I limit the time and find another important thing to do like: learning Spanish, coding, ... I think that other tasks can help me go far in my career path. :D :D :D
