Olympics 2012

Postby play it cool » Sun May 13, 2012 2:12 am

Anyone going to any events? Anyone give a monkeys about it at all? It's the biggest sporting event the UK's hosted for many years (well, ever) and it's just around the corner now, yet outside the media I've witnessed little excitement. I'm off to a few football matches (albeit at the Millennium Stadium) which will do me.

More chance of winning the lottery than getting a ticket to the top events, anyway, better view on TV :)

Now that the Olympic flame has landed in British soil and the media have made a big song and dance about it,i wonder how many brits are beginning to get into the spirit of the Olympics.

The BBC were just about falling over themselves about it,interviewing (sir) David Beckham,Lord Sebastain Coe and that buffoon Boris(the spider)Johnston.

Dont get me wrong. When the torch comes to my town i will be there to see it on June the 8th. :D :D
I take only what is mine Lord, my pony, my squaw, and my child
I can't stay to see you die along with my tribe's pride
I go to search for the yellow moon and the fathers of our sons
Where the red sun sinks in the hills of gold and the healing waters run

I'll watch them... on tv... a friend of mine who's living in London as well as some tourists have told me that London's psychic atm.... I'd like to visit London, but waaaay after the Games.
First, the Euro, then the Olympics. I'm sure we will get a couple of medals, at least in Judo (Telma Monteiro got gold in the European championships, so...) and athletics (triple jump, let's see...). And we are in the laser class sailing competition.

I like watching gymnastics, the agility and strength is amazing, boxing and sprints also, plus other bits and bobs. I hope it goes off without a hitch, it should do, enough money as been spent on it.

Craig Bellamy has announced that he is in the GB squad. With Giggs and Beckham surely guaranteed, that fills up all 3 over-age spots.

chaotic, police and security wise, all the traffic.
I'll watch, whenever I can, the gymnastics, swimming, athletics, judo, canoeing and rowing... :)

Glad he's not been picked really. Good to see Pearce picking on merit rather than performance - having said that Giggs wasn't in the best of form last season so surprised he's in there.

I'm not into the Olympics at all and for the money being spent wish they'd spent it on something more worthwhile rather than having to cut public services etc as part of the austerity measure. Okay cuts would have had to happen but maybe not as deeply if there wasn't so much being thrown at the Olympics. I don't think anywhere other than London will benefit in the UK and given that only Sydney have shown a profit/balanced the books in recent memory then the only legacy might well be a further mountain of debt!

I will probably watch the Team GB football matches but nothing else interests me about the event. The Olympic Torch came past the end of my road on Sunday and I didn't go to see it. If I want to look at a flame I'll just turn on the gas fire.

I think it shows that Pearce is taking the event very serious, picking players who he thinks will perform at a high standard, rather than just be a media delight.

I see Ryan GIggs has been named as Team GB football's captain - always good to see adultery doesn't pay! Love the guy as a player but when his personal has been held up for all to see in such a high profile way it's hardly the best example to set for youngsters or the best message to send out there.

I like that too, plus the swimming.
I hope it all goes well *fingers crossed* I don't think I will breathe easy until the Games are over with. Usually I would have long lists of favorites picked out, but haven't done it this time.
