I gotta be honest... I went to Silverstone a few years back and I thought it was kinda dull. I couldn't help but feel I could've just been watching it on TV and seeing a whole lot more of the race. And because it was just in the UK, it wasn't like it was a holiday either. Who knows, maybe we just picked a crap section to stand at :)

I certainly hope you enjoy it though!

The first time I went, back in 2010, I won tickets through a competition and only found out the week before that I was going. So that time it was pretty hectic planning travel and accommodation, so we didn't really have much time to plan out what would happen at the track. While the tickets we won were on the start/finish straight, because we didn't plan it properly, we didn't get the best experience with regards as to what was happening elsewhere on the track. But now when I go, I make sure I have tickets in view of a big TV screen and take a portable radio with me so I know what's happening during all the sessions, and it really makes the experience much better!!!

That's literally EXACTLY what happened when I went!

I'm off to Spa later this year, and this time I'm going to do it properly - with someone who's been before and knows what they're doing!

Didn't see it at the time as I left right after F1 quali to catch a bus back. Looks awful though, and I don't think that's the best comment to make in that situation!!!

To be fair, it's probably very hard to know what to say straight after a nasty crash. I know Murray Walker has spoken of how hard it was after Senna crashed, knowing he had to keep talking but couldn't say "That looks nasty" or "I'm sure he'll be fine"

Finnish bloke with a VERY dry sense of humour. There's no such thing as a bad Formula One driver, just different degrees of bloody good, and Kimi's in top five percent of those.

Someone needs to get to the bottom of this tyre issue. Tyres are always gonna fail, but having four go in a single race (plus one the day before) is far from normal.

Silverstone needs to sort out their kerbs.

Might be great for zooming a bloody Lamborghini round the circuit, but get in one of these carbon fibre jobs with five tons of downforce doing 300 ks round there, pulling 7g in some corners, you might just as well Tarmac razors into the road.

Still, considering all that, Hamilton drove a blinder, from first to last in one lap, and from last to fourth in the remaining ones.

Were the kerbs definitely to blame though? From what Ross Braun was saying about that Barcelona test, it sounds like Pirelli might know there's a problem.

It seems Lewis's on-off relationship with Nicole Shite-singer, is currently in the latter category.

Last time that happened it took him about half a dozen races to put his head back together again, so hopefully for him, it's either a short hiatus, or failing that, it's not going to send him Doo-lally. He's a REALLY nice bloke!

Reading the various BBC and Sky F1 blogs it's a combination of the tyres and the kerbs. The kerbs have a sharp inner edge:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/23118588

and it's precisely at the point where the tyre is stretched to its maximum on the inner wall, trying to slip sideways. As such the kerb was probably the cause of the inner wall being cut (and it seems it happened on more cars than we saw with tyre explosions - Alonso's tyre failed as he was coming into the pits apparently), but because the construction of the tyre has changed from last year, the tyre cannot take that punishment like it used to be able to.

This is different from the problem that Pirelli were addressing at the illegal test; thawas due to delamination, where the tread was breaking off from the carcass of the tyre. This weekend was all about explosions following punctures.
