Olympics 2014

Postby Fizzle » Fri Feb 07, 2014 3:09 am

Anyone else watching?

I was torn about watching due to the Russian human rights atrocities. I'm hoping they don't win anything. :P I love Googles current homepage:

"The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play." –Olympic Charter

I love watching figure skating, I'm rooting for Canada since the USA is not doing so well thus far. :P

I watched most of the figure skating last night. I missed Evgeni Plushenko, so I'll have to seek his routine on YouTube.

Right now, I'm rooting for Japan in the team competition. Yuzuru Hanyu was incredible! And while their pairs didn't score very high, I really loved their routine. It was so delicate. The Canadian pair was gorgeous as well -- such a beautiful routine.

Is this going to be like the gymnastics competition now? That they compete for a team medal, and then for individual medals? Interesting way to extend the most popular winter sport.

I was watching some reports, especially on the homossexuality issue, the relationship with Europe and Ukraine. And the conditions in the hotels...

I just hope no innocents die in any attacks in such a region.

The opening ceremony was beautiful, I can only imagine what it would have been like to be there.

What's up with their inclusion of t.A.T.u, that Russian pop group who pretended to be lesbians? I noticed the music when the Russian team were introduced.

Is there some sort of statement they're trying to make with that or am I reaching here? It seems odd amidst all the controversy.

after all the issues with Pussy Riot and the gay issues, it may be a politically correct thing... it doesn't stop the KGB agent in Kremlin from doing his crap.

Here is the Russian Police performing 'Get Lucky' in the opening ceremony pre show.

Is it gay?

That performance wasn't actually at the Olympics but I'm going to leave it there as who doesn't love men in uniform? :P

I am not going to watch one minute of it, because even though my sentiments might be misplaced I feel allowing myself to be entertained by them is akin to condoling the way the Russian officials handled the stray dogs issue, which sickens me. :-(

Luckily for us, July isn't the type to make fun about such important issue/s.

I won't even attempt to excuse the dog issue. But how do you think they should have handled it, since having tourists attacked by feral dogs would also be a problem?
