Thanks Icy.

I meant to say condoning, I have no idea how that 'l' got in there instead. ;-)

:bigups: . Anyone who even knows you a little here knows how much you care for animals. I said luckily above, but I'll also add thankfully you are not the type to make fun about important issue/s.
The homophobia and dog issue bothers me too. Truly I think Sochi is still unprepared for all of this.

If I was head of that city I wouldn't have let the stray dog situation grow to the proportion that it did in the first place. Surely they have veterinarians there capable of neutering and spaying-and grant money or the means of raising funds to subsidize such programs.

One of the dogs pictured in this video appears to have Pointer in it, an excellent bird dog with good pet qualities. What a shame! At any rate, shooting and poisoning the reported "thousands" of stray dogs is as bad as the badger culling in the UK. I've heard and read stories of dogs rolling around in agony after having ingested the poison.

I'm not buying the story that this is for the protection of the visitors. Not entirely. More likely it's a rushed up attempt to cover an embarrassing case of sloppy city management.

I watched the video and it seems that extermination companies are doing the dog round up, not the police. I'm not defending the Russian police, they are responsible for a lot of atrocities but everyday in the US it seems the police overstep the line too.

I respect your right to not watch a video but strongly resent the implication that it shouldn't be made fun of because it's 'making fun of important issues'. It happens in politics all the time and is what most satirical news programs like 'The Daily Show' are based on.

Now back to the Olympics; The Italian men's Ice Skater in the long program team event skated to a Queen medley of WWTLF, BR and WRTC. Hopefully it will appear on youtube soon.

Promite, can you go back read what I posted earlier? I posted that luckily and thankfully July isn't the type to make fun of important issues. Where on earth have I posted it should not be made fun of? Um, I didn't. The well being of animals means a lot to July, it's clear in many of her posts.
Please stop twisting my words. I strongly resent that.

Not only is there the dog poisoning problem there is the orca and dolphin problem (orcas are dolphins, anyway).

It is NEVER ok to poison an animal because you don't want it. I don't know what they are using to kill these dogs but it sounds like some type of backwards, hillbilly rat poison. Horrifically painful and a long drawn out death.

As far as the orcas, first they say they will, then they say they won't then it's back on again. I am watching when I can, for the sole purpose of seeing if they do use these orcas in this show, somewhere. If they do, there will be hell to pay.

Those who don't feel they are condoning anything by watching Russian men in uniform singing, might enjoy this rendition of 'The Show Must go on' by the Russian Army choir.

The lead singer is very very good! IMO

Nah. Not enjoying it. It's one of 2 or 3 Queen songs that I wish most wouldn't cover because the version with Freddie is so filled with emotion and determination...unbeatable really.

Sports anyone? This lady and this team is making me so proud. Such an awesome job!

I haven't been keeping up the last two days, I've been watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Last I saw USA had 4 golds, but that could've changed by now.

Russias use of that t.A.T.u song remixed with WWRY really left a bad taste in my mouth, how dare they use Queen with their disgusting treatment of their gay community.

i happened to catch this video that talks about the stray dogs in Sochi and points to an actual solution:

Wouldn't it be great if some of the athletes visited this shelter with a camera and let the billions of people watching know that there are stray dogs waiting to be adopted? I don't know how hard it would be to take a dog out of the country, but it probably wouldn't take more than one percent of the people coming to Sochi for the games adopting a dog to clear Sochi of all their strays.

And if they each gave a small donation, that could be the start of a sterilization program for the city.
