I don't know how many fans he has here, but one of my personal heroes, Anthony Bourdain reportedly took his own life either last night or this morning. Reading the news today really shook me to my core.

I highly recommend his book Kitchen Confidential, and his TV program 'Parts Unknown' to anyone who hasn't read or seen them.

 I know how much you admired him.
I'm shocked too. He was one of the good guys...and always will be.

Thanks icy! There is going to be a special program about his life tonight on CNN, if you are interested and able to watch.

You are very welcome.
I'm watching CNN now. I watched his recent Newfoundland episode before logging in here, many of my tears fell. Still falling. A great guy, and he will be missed.

Three somewhat famous pro wrestlers died in one day a few days ago.

Nikolai Volkoff at 70. Him I remember quite well. He was part of the tag team of The Bolsheviks....that was pretty much the standard thing the WWF did back in the 80s, any time they had some foreigners, they had to package them as the EVIL HEELS!!! How many times on Saturday or Sunday morning, or even on Prime Time Wrestling on Monday night (before Monday Night Raw!) I read something interesting much later, though....he was actually Croatian, and was happy to play as a Russian heel as a protest against what they were doing at the time.

The second one was Brian Christopher. Uh.....rather, Brian Christopher Lawler. Now that last name would ring a bell to longtime wrestling fans, as he was the son of Jerry "The King" Lawler, longtime WWE commentator and something of a legend in the ring in his own right. For some reason, when Brian was in WWE and his dad was a commentator, they did this weird thing of not outright coming out and saying they were related but often making jokes and insinuations about it. I never got that. Either shut up about it, or just go with it, ya know? I mean, there's been a bunch of wrestlers who were related, but were never acknowledged to be, and there's been wrestlers who they acted like were related but weren't. So go one way or the other, right? Anyway, he was a good wrestler, one of a fairly famous tag team, Too Cool, once the WWF tag team champions. I guess he hung himself, don't know what was going on there.

The third guy was named Brickhouse Brown....and about him, I'll say....uh.....don't know much about him, but he was the third guy that died. I guess if I watch all the videos from Jim Cornette's (wrestling promoter, and manger throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s) YouTube channel, he'll probably have something to say about that.

RIP Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin!

One of the true great voices, just an icon really. Of course we know Freddie was a fan. Didn't he say Cool Cat was him trying to sing like her?

Anyway, I just about grew up listening to her, with the Motown on the oldies stations and all that. (Known as Tamla across the pond, ain't it? I love that stuff, whatever you want to call it...Four Tops, Temptations, Supremes, and so forth)

Montserrat Caballe. Aged 85.

Did SO much more than just one album with Freddie.

Not heard anything else by her but if Freddie thought she was good, that says it all. RIP.

Yeah but he was also Paul Rodgers’ #1 fan

Guide Me Home is probably in my top 5 of all Queen and related songs.

She had a voice for the ages. She and Freddie opened my eyes and ears to a genre that I wasn't interested in before. A great lady. RIP.

Awww... :-( This is such sad news. I've actually been thinking about her recently. She was such a kind soul and great friend to our dear Freddie. But she was definitely so much more. A powerful opera diva. Truly one of the greatest, and she possessed the voice that opened my ears to a very different world from rock and roll. RIP Montserrat Caballe.
