I get what you mean, especially with TDOS- there seemed to be too much more crammed in to make the film stretch to three parts, and I also don't like the Kili/Legolas/Tauriel love triangle, as it goes against everything I've read about Middle Earth before. The bit with the stone giants in AUJ was also a bit like a theme-park ride for me, but overall the film was more like an LOTR-inspired version of the original book, so I liked it better. I still prefer the LOTR trilogy, because I think Jackson got those absolutely spot on. I really want to like TBOFA, as I feel somehow like a bad person for not being as rabid a fanboy over the Hobbit trilogy as I was over LOTR. I still think it would have worked as either a long single film of about Beh Hur or Cleopatra proportions, or two films at best.
I'm actually looking at ordering a copy of the original Canadian cartoon, as many aspects of that were closer to the book, and despite its' 'twee' look, I think it'll be quite enjoyable.
