Well, I took Elle's points on board and gave TDOS another watch, but I'm still not happy with the changes that were made. I saw the video below, and, while exaggerated a little for comic effect, the narrator pretty much sums up what I didn't like. Even if you disagree, stick around for the last two minutes, they are an absolute hoot!

 Wank away, nerd

Hope it's better than TDOS. That was a letdown.

I still haven't even seen the second. I missed it in the cinema, and to be honest I'm not even that bothered. I don't think I've heard anyone singing these films' praises like The Lord of the Rings.

All of a sudden, Orlando Bloom is 300% more bad ass than he was as Legolas...

meh... Maybe it's my fading fantasy or my fading interest in fantasy, but somehow I cannot help noticing that the special effects look much more fake compared with Lord of the Rings. Almost cartoonish. I'll watch the film, rest assured, but not sure I'll be overly excited.

I get what you mean, especially with TDOS- there seemed to be too much more crammed in to make the film stretch to three parts, and I also don't like the Kili/Legolas/Tauriel love triangle, as it goes against everything I've read about Middle Earth before. The bit with the stone giants in AUJ was also a bit like a theme-park ride for me, but overall the film was more like an LOTR-inspired version of the original book, so I liked it better. I still prefer the LOTR trilogy, because I think Jackson got those absolutely spot on. I really want to like TBOFA, as I feel somehow like a bad person for not being as rabid a fanboy over the Hobbit trilogy as I was over LOTR. I still think it would have worked as either a long single film of about Beh Hur or Cleopatra proportions, or two films at best.

I'm actually looking at ordering a copy of the original Canadian cartoon, as many aspects of that were closer to the book, and despite its' 'twee' look, I think it'll be quite enjoyable.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that when the Hobbit movies simply aren't anywhere near as good as the Rings trilogy.

The credits song will be 'The Last Goodbye' by Billy Boyd.

There are no words for how happy this makes me.

That's so cool.
Where I currently am there are places called Upper Hill Road, Roundwood Road and Middle Heath etc. Always makes me think of Tolkien, but then of course he was inspired by such age old place names so its all just ever decreasing circles.

I'd love to live in 'land of Tolkien' if my translation guess is correct from that map.
