I’m both excited and deeply concerned.

Why spend silly money on the rights owned by New Line so that you can either try to remake the films, or make up some fairly inconsequential stuff based on the appendices to span the 70 years between The Hobbit and The Fellowship, which will presumably be mostly a recast Aragorn and Theoden killing a few orcs?

Better off acquiring The Silmarillion rights and starting afresh. Far more to work with.

“But Christopher Tolkien will never allow it!”. True, but his sons would. And Christopher is in his 90s. Now when he dies, it will be very sad. But...

I’m sure Amazon don’t need their own Game of Thrones RIGHT NOW.

Christopher Tolkien has resigned/retired from the Tolkien Estate!

Fans owe him a great debt of gratitude, and hopefully he will enjoy a long retirement.

And if Amazon make The Silmarillion instead of making up some pre-Fellowship rubbish, I’m in!
