So I finally got around to a second listen to the new album and I will say it did grow on me a bit. Not tremendously. I don't think it matches up with his best work but it is sometimes catchy - just not consistently so. I initially would have said 2.5/5 I would inch it up a bit to 3/5.

I did like the simplicity of some of the tracks like Tambourine and Blue Wonderful. Guilty Pleasure was fun too. I think I could get it to a 3.5 with another listen but I'll let you know in a few months ;)

Reports are circulating that he has suffered and is recovering from a "deadly bacterial infection'. Taken from the BBC news website, not able to post a link to the article. Hoping he fully recovers from it.

News today is that Elton John will retire after one lengthy, last tour.
Thanks for the years of live music, Elton John...a true groundbreaking artist.

I'm surprised that news isn't getting more of a reaction.

I am seeing a lot of people in the Leon Russell forums saying they've got tickets for various shows. Leon's fans love Elton to bits and his music as well so they are going for more than one reason.

Do you know the name of this tour? Seems like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road would suit it quite well, I guess. In any event, it's sad but he deserves the rest, too.

It is not garnering much attention, simply because the farewell tour will consist of 300 shows over a 3 year span. On top of that, he has stated that even though he will no longer tour, he plans on continuing to make music in the studio.

3 year span? Holy crap. Here I thought this would only be several months. Regardless, I'm definitely going to see him. He's one of my favorites and I'll be damned if I miss my last opportunity.

I wouldn't expect him to do 300 shows in a year, and I'm glad he is taking his time with it. I hope it goes well for him.

He'll probably do another tour 2 years after this last one finishes  some artists just cannot stop.

I think he will be done when it's over. He has a family now after all. I don't blame him for wanting to retire, boy he has worked his butt of years. It's incredible he kept going for so long.
Maybe he will do a couple of one off appearances a couple times a year.
