I thought it was magnificent from the moment I heard it, and he was still alive then. I thought, and still think, The Next Day was overrated and could've shaved off some fat... and I'm not a poser, either, but a fan of 26 years (that's almost 84% of my lifespan).

agreed

i imagine thousands of them buying the album, expecting something aking to "let's dance", and then shove away the album in dissapointment, wondering how on earth they let themselves been fooled by the marketing machine again.

...only to get fooled once again when the next big artist dies. lol

:agreepost: It is probably the album for me in the past few years. A brilliant, compelling and dare I say gutsy album.

I guess that on reflection I don't particularly like 3 out of the 7 tracks, but the other 4 are great, including 2 that I think rank amongst his best ever. So it is what it is really - 4 great songs and some filler. Some of his other, longer albums only have 1 or even 0 great songs, while others have 11.

Which songs don't you particularly like? Would like your view on it.

The three crap ones!

Tracks 2, 4 and 5.
I'd get bored halfway through typing the names of 2 and 4!

There was a documentary on the BBC over the weekend, David Bowie; The Last Five Years, detailing his cardiac incident on the Reality tour, his work on The Next Day, Lazarus and Blackstar, and of course his illness and death- although not much mention was made of that due to his being so secretive, despite mentioning that he was ill, possibly terminally, to the musicians on Blackstar, and had them swear secrecy until after he'd gone. Interestingly enough, i discovered that the drums on Blackstar and Sue [Or In A Season Of Crime] weren't samples or a drum machine, but were actually performed by a musician who plays with a modern jazz outfit that specialises in that sort of playing style. Hearing them playing the opening bars to Blackstar and watching them doing it was utterly fascinating.

dreadful album. obviously got the sympathy vote.

if this was an album of another artist, no one would even mention it.

Do shut the fuck up, action. You're trolling, and it's getting tiresome.

There was a nationwide screening of Ziggy Stardust in cinemas today. I have it on DVD, but on the big screen it was excellent.
