there is nothing artistic about celebrating death. i'm sure bowie himself is nodding in agreement from heaven (or wherever his soul is now) and is already dreading his last album.
the album is depressing whereas rock music should always be uplifting and strong.
innuendo and MIH were like this too, and i cant say it was for the better. especially innuendo feels too plomp and depressing.
Hope you're taking the piss here. Blackstar is pure genius. It isn't really rock music btw. "Art Rock" perhaps.
It was not meant to be his last album though so people have read too much into the lyrics. He wrote/demoed 5 more songs for another album before he died. The death-fixated lyrics in Blackstar likely refer to the Lazarus musical. Still I'm sure Bowie did consider it having another meaning (his own fate)..
not really interested in how it was meant
"everybody knows me now" seems pretty obvious.
it was "not cool". depressing, life depleting. doesnt make me feel more of a man as i am.
i stand by the fact that bowie, if his spirit lives on (and i do believe so), is already dreading this album and surely wants to be remembered by his more rocking work (though i dont like that either, but you get my frift)
