Shocking news.

Truly a legend in his own right, and one who was SO important in so many ways to Queen happening.
What is left of your dream?
Just the words on your stone.
A man who learnt how to teach,
But forgot how to learn.

As with every other music-lover out there in the world today, I am absolutely floored by this sad news. I do not profess to be a Bowie fan (I could never 'click' with his music, although I have many tracks I love), but as a music fan I have nothing but respect and admiration for this mercurial and unique man.

The word 'legend' gets thrown around far too easily these days, but there can be no argument about David Bowie. One of our most influential and original artists, he walked his own path, did his own thing and always kept us guessing. Quite simply, he was one of the best - up there with Elvis and Lennon (and dear Freddie, of course) and music fans across the globe (Bowie fans or not) have lost someone who - like the few other true legends - simply cannot be replaced.

Today is a dark day; it actually takes me back to that Monday morning in November, 1991 when I found out Freddie had passed (although obviously without the added emotion of being a passionate fan). Another rare talent has left us. Music will be a lot quieter and duller without you around, but it will never, ever forget you.

Sweet dreams, Mr Jones. x

Yes - that is very true. If Bowie hadn't of pulled out of TOTP then Queen may of not of got their break in the UK.

I hope David and Freddie are rocking out up there...

I couldn't claim to be a fan but I am truly shocked by Bowie's death. RIP.

Just one of many crossing of paths. It was during Bowie's downtime at Trident Studios, that the band got a lot of their opportunity to record their first album. A lot of the Tonight album, the one that followed Let's Dance, was recorded at Mountain with David Richards. A bit hard tO leave out Under Pressure, as well.

I can't believe it. I did suspect something was off with his last video, but I had absolutely no idea he was dying. He was absolutely magnificent and ... well, there are no words.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger did not compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

This one is VERY hard.

I really only fully got into Bowie over the past few years. I always knew, admired, and respected the man. But it was always peripheral.

At first it was Labyrinth as a child. Then it was when I got into Queen so it was Under Pressure and the Freddie Tribute and various other bits and bobs.

Then in college a friend of mine was a big NIN fan and we got tickets to NIN/Bowie and I heard his new album. I wasn'ta big fan at first and while I was slightly disappointed that the concert was geared to the new disc....but it planted real roots in me. and it's now my fav album by him.

So I started watching all of his new stuff as it came out - but in the last few years I immersed myself and was simply just amazed. Just such a musical legend. I'm rambling but this one is hard....

I was sadden to hear the new of Bowie's death but I wasn't shocked. He's been out of the public eye for years and apparently been very ill for some time. I'm just hopeful that he didn't suffer greatly through his illness and that now he is at peace.

I woke up to the news at 5:00 a.m. today on my local news channel and was quite shocked to hear that he passed away two days after his 69th birthday last Friday and the release that day of his 28th album, Blackstar. How strange that is but we didn't know he was suffering with cancer for the past 18 months. I was always hoping we would still see him performing again, especially "Under Pressure" with the remaining Queen guys and Adam.

Just remembered that January 8th was Elvis Presley's birthday, too.

Sad to hear about his passing, but not shocked. "Passing" seems particularly appropriate in his case, because, if the Greek Gods were still around, they'd be putting a Bowie constellation in the Heavens right now.
