^What a boring statement that is :P.

Back at it, this one now. I feel odd after not having the time to delve into a book in recent weeks.

Hey Icy. If I'm remembering correctly, you're a huge Elton John fan. His book is now out and he's making the rounds to promote it. In case you haven't seen it, here's a link to a two-part interview from the Today Show. Look out for the "special" room in Part II.

Part II

You're welcome!

I love Elton John's 70s stuff, but later stuff, well, not so much. But I think he's an interesting person so the book should be a good read for me. I hope I find time to get to the bookstore this weekend.

Many people (even in my own family) ask me why I think so highly and consider Elton a hero/inspiration. The interview sums it all up. I've just cried watching that(in a good way!)...there needs to be more like him in this world. How very kind/thoughful he was to include Evelyn Lauder in that room. :bigups:
If I see the book, I'm going to snap it up. I want it more than any book I've seen it ages...heck I need it to be honest.
Thank you so much again M&M :bigups:.

I finished Elton's book Love is the Cure. It's heart wrenching in the beginning but then after the first few chapters, it becomes more like a statistical and historical account of what has been done in AIDS research and awareness both by him and globally with bits of personal accounts sprinkled in (don't remember seeing a mention of the Freddie Concert for Life surprisingly). Ryan White is clearly his hero and is mentioned with much affection throughout. The chapter on Ryan is both sad and, of course, inspiring. The part about Freddie is early on in Chapter 2. He says Freddie told him "soon after he was diagnosed in 1987". There's a picture of him and Freddie in the book taken at Live Aid. The rest I'll summarized in a spoiler for anyone who might be curious to know what he said about Freddie but have no desire to read the book.

Spoiler! :
He describes Freddie as one of his closest friends who he loved dearly. He says it broke his heart to watch Freddie deteriorate which he also vaguely describes. He said Freddie was definitely aware of how horrific his death going to be but that he remained the "funny, courageous and generous person he always had been" throughout his illness. He said Freddie "truly lived for others" and goes on to describe how much the painting gift that Freddie had sent for Christmas 1991 meant to him. Elton says that gesture is what he thinks of most when he thinks of Freddie because it "captures the character of the man". He ends saying that Freddie "touched me in a way few people ever have and his brave, private struggle with AIDS is something that inspires me to this day". The Freddie bit was only 2 pages, but I was in tears by the end as he described crying like a child when he got Freddie's gift.

Hi. I'd seen the book earlier today at WalMart, flipped through it quickly, and ouch it hurt to put it back on the shelf. Hopefully I will be able to afford it in a month's time.
Knowing WalMart though it could be gone in a hurry, much like the Ozzy book.
I very, very much want the book, I'm not selfish in saying that, because I very much need it to get me out feeling sorry for myself, which I know I do sometimes. Elton is such an inspiration to me in many areas of life. I've often thought about starting a thread about him, but I'll babble and put people off!
The pic of Freddie and Elton remains one of my fav pics of any celeb.

That's too bad, Icy. I bought my book at Barnes and Nobel, and I saw plenty of Ozzie books on the discount shelf. Maybe you could try buying both books online through them??

For those of you who are interested. My adored Paul Auster will soon publish his next autobiographical work called "Winter Journal".
Here's a snippet of him reading from it. Just listen to it, it's just three minutes but it succinctly demonstrates what I love about his work. There are so many things he writes where you have to say: "That's so true!" And the way he puts it into words is so simple, yet profound.

Gah
I really hate ordering online to my shame, but $$ is the biggest issue for me right now.

Hey, Sixpence, I know you have mentioned wrestlers and their books earlier in this thead.
Have you ever heard about this guy Jerry The King Lawler. I've picked his book up at a yard sale today...it looks to be very good, although I'm not starting it yet.
It's Good To Be King...Sometimes Jerry Lawler with Doug Asheville.
