Anyone else disappointed with the latest BluRay? Strange sound (at least the 5.1 mix), unusual bad director's job... Left me quite cold. Loved the previous two live BluRays though.

I recently bought the BluRay-version of their R30 tour and gave it a spin: Wow, could it be that this is possibly the best-sounding Rush gig? Especially Neil's drums sound so well, especially in comparison to the Clockwork Angels live release. Add to that the inclusion of the songs they cut out for the DVD. Worth the money.

I felt the same way. Then I heard about the remix being finally released and I got psyched again. Didn't want to hear the original mix for months, because I wanted a fresh listen. So when it finally arrived I really revisited it and learned to accept and adore it as an important album for my personal biography. It helped me in various ways and I am grateful so much that Rush stayed a band after the horrible events that Neil had to go through.

I was looking up Rush images a while ago and found this one (I think it was used in some sort of Ayn Rand discussion, of course) :D

I don't really follow Rush so I had no idea what you were talking about. I looked it up and I couldn't believe all of the stuff he had to go through. :-( He's a very strong person.

Indeed. That's horror nobody wants to go through. Almost unbelievable that he was able to find happiness again. Almost prophetic that this guy wrote the lyrics to "The Pass" which is all about suicide being a cheap way out and that stop fighting is never a noble thing to do. Quite provocatively juxtaposing it with Jesus's decision to get crucified:

Neil Peart wrote:Someone set a bad example,
made surrender seem alright
the act of a noble warrior
who lost the will to fight.

Makes you think.

It's weird really that his 'story' made me follow their music. My first contact was the Rush in Rio DVD and in the documentary they only gave hints that Neil Peart had a horrible time, but it was never revealed what it was. When I did some research I was more interested in the whole band. Hooked ever since.

An appropriate one for today- at 08:15 a.m. seventy years ago today, the world changed forever, and the nuclear genie was let out of the bottle, never to return. Lest we forget...

Oh yes. This is, for me, a prime example in which the lyrics made me listen to the song more closely. At first it was an okish song, now it's one of my favourite Rush songs:

Cheers... Already forgot that you can quote almost every sentence... "It's not as if you're all alone in wanting to explode." Beautiful and should be listened by everybody who thinks life is not worth living.

Just to keep icy from hogging the thread....(j/k! :P)

I just listened to "Rush" (the 1974 debut album) for the first time in quite a while, and I kinda forgot how good of an album that is. Yeah, no Neil Peart, but Rutsey was a pretty good drummer himself, really....and it's nowhere near as original as their later stuff, but they did that Zep-style rock pretty well :D
