I just listened to "Rush" (the 1974 debut album) for the first time in quite a while, and I kinda forgot how good of an album that is. Yeah, no Neil Peart, but Rutsey was a pretty good drummer himself, really....and it's nowhere near as original as their later stuff, but they did that Zep-style rock pretty well :D

Apologies. Those lyrics and others have recently hit me over the head so to speak. And Simon was/is spot on about it.
I love a heartfelt, life experince discussion. That's what Simon does, and does it very well.

No apology needed, I was just being silly, as usual ;)

Makes me sad that they did not come to Europe for their (allegedly) last tour.

The videos promise a better sound quality than the last live release... Too bad, because Rush really seemed to enjoy the Clockwork Angels concept. However, I never liked orchestra in rock shows. I can hardly hear them, and when I do, I always think it sounds like a synthesizer...

Watched a " Classic Albums " featuring 2112 & Moving pictures. There was some nice clips of the band in concert & in the studio. I always thought Rush were great musically but I do find Geddy's vocals a bit hit & miss.

Finally, only 4 months after I first posted about it here, I got R40 Live.....only watched about the first hour of it so far as I've been kind of busy the last few days, but I'm definitely impressed so far!

Also, I found this kind of interesting...the cover photo for R40 is credited to Randy Johnson. I looked it up, and yeah, it's THAT Randy Johnson. As in the Major League pitcher, 2015 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee aka "The Big Unit". Apparently he's a big Rush fan, and has a second career as a photographer.

Will finally be delivered today... A lot of reviews stated that Geddy's voice is atrocious on that one... Weird. Doesn't sound like that in the videos I have looked at so far. Sure, his best singing voice is behind him, but the Clockwork Angels Tour was certainly not the best time for his voice.

Yeah, I agree....maybe he wasn't at his best, but it's far from 'atrocious', I think.

I just read this review on "Popmatters"

"His vocals do sound strained at times and he can’t quite hit all the high notes like he used to (“Natural Science” is particularly rough), but he’s a trooper—many of the songs are at or near his breaking point, but Lee still gives his all and makes the songs work as well as he can despite the inevitable changes in his voice wrought by time and decades of touring."

(The thing that really sucks now is that the dvd drive I got for my computer doesn't wanna work half the time, so I can barely even watch the damn thing  )

It really is hard to listen to at some moments. It is weird. It's the first tour since the Snakes and Arrows tour I haven't witnessed myself. Just being able to watch it onscreen is a bit sad, especially since this is their farewell.
Also, I am quite disappointed about the light show. The first half is almost only in a green-blue. In itself a nice colour, but it doesn't change. And the changing stage is a nice idea, but I expected a little more.
On the plus side: I like the idea to go back in time with their songs. I managed not to look at the setlist. Of course I was very much surprised to hear Losing It. Even more happy to see that they (finally) played "How It Is", a song that helped me very much five years ago.
Another cloudy day
Seems we'll never see the sun
I feel the day has possibilities
Frozen in the moment
The lack of imagination
Between how it is and how it ought to be

Indeed.

Rush have quit touring due to drummer Neal Peart having terrible pain from his arthritis the band have announced. At this moment in time they are not sure whether they'll carry on as a studio band.
