I don't know whether they've acquired the masters back off Mercury Records, but as Universal now run Queen, as well as the Smile tracks, I wouldn't have thought there's an issue

About the new episode this week;

The magic rehearsal, who shot it, and is the complete thing available in someone’s collection, as far as anyone knows ?

I asked Tim Staffel and his response indicated that Queen own the Smile recordings.

I just do not think there is enough material to justify it. A few unreleased tracks and the same album tracks live does not amount to that much.

I still think if any box set is going to be released this year it will be a live one - simply because of the promotional clips currently running on Youtube.

I think this may be the same tape that Roger opposed though.

Greg has already stated that only box sets which can be aimed at the public are seriously considered; Queen I is not an album that Joe Public gives a shit about. I reckon the next studio box will be Innuendo if anything.

If they promote it right, it could do well.
Nah. The album is not well known enough to do well as a box set. There is just no way on earth Queen are going to even think about releasing it; I'll put money on that with anyone.

Wasn't this footage the same as the extra footage on the Wembley DVD from about 20 years ago? If not the same songs it certainly was taken from the same rehearsal film on that DVD I think.

Pre-Queen tracks which most people on earth have never heard much less heard of would be a strong selling point.

And News of the World and The Miracle are well known studio albums of the “Joe Public”?!?!
I really doubt that!

Combined, those albums are famous for which songs? We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions and I Want It All!

News of the World songs are so famous that they dropped them after some concerts, in the Q+AL World Tour in 2017-2018. And the persons that go to those concerts are mainly general Queen fans!
We can go to the YouTube and see the reaction to those songs! Quite calmly….

And again, this will always be my argument against the release of individual boxsets of each album, as I mentioned in another topic.

Queen are a band known for their singles and not for the albums they made.
Queen doesn't have any iconic album....except the Greatest Hits.

So, if you want to create boxsets aimed at the general public, these have to contain several songs from different albums dispersed over an extended period of time. Even if I consider that the boxsets will never be aimed at the general public.
For example, divide the 15 albums into 4 boxsets.

And even Innuendo is famous for which songs to the general public?!!? The Show Must Go On and Days of Our Lives….what else?

And to be fair, most of the Boxsets are targeted to the fans…….the question is, do they want to produce boxsets aimed at the majority of fans or those with more financial liquidity?

They could release a boxset called something like “Early Years”, or something like that, composed of the first three albums.
The content could include three cd’s with the making of those albums (each per album), something similar to the “The Miracle Sessions” and more three cd’s full of rarities, instrumentals and outtakes. With a nice book! And one more cd with interviews. To me that it’s a very nice boxset, and not that expensive.

No vynil in the boxset, no 2011 remastered versions that we have already, and other fillers…..
