And when you're in a band with Lennon and McCartney, to get any songs on an album, gives you a benchmark to beat.

True, but I do believe they also benefited from George's musicianship. Listening to the Anthologies one hears a massive difference with the intended track and George's input.

A friend told me a long time ago that a thread is like a river: it flows, it snakes, it changes direction, it splits into smaller threads until finally it flows into the Great Sea we call QOL.

Pretty much what I was thinking, Dali.

Like Freddie said about recording The Miracle, the stuff that wants to get, inevitably gets out.

With the boxset itself, there's maybe 2/3 of a CDs worth of stuff, that's a revelation, all the rest of it is tying up loose ends, like B sides, 12" mixes, instruntals, and interviews. For sure, The Miracle has the most of a wide range of different things to furnish a boxset with.

Throughout all the other albums will be all those things, including live versions, but probably not as much of a wide range of stuff, when you start trawling, and putting it all together.

Even The Frog Song has an endearing quality, knowing how he won over a new audience to his work. There's far worse songs out there that were inherently written for kids.

Oh, it is easy to take the piss out off, but it is endearing (as are many of his songs, I feel); there is such an air of innocence and child-like simplicity about the song. Same with Cliff Richard - some of his songs are easy to rip to shreds, but I tell you what that man had a damn fine voice back in the day (I am no Cliff fan but have recently heard some of his stuff and I thought his vocals quite beautiful).

The thing about McCartney is that he was a natural song writer. He wrote from the soul. And for someone with no musical training, boy did he write some unique melodies too; his chord structures and musical shifts are wonderful. I have started learning his stuff on piano and I now have even more appreciation and respect for him than I did before.

Another gorgeous song - and sentiment - is his more well known Pipes Of Peace; such a lovely, warm (in all ways) track that one.

My two favourite albums of McCartney, are Tug Of War and Pipes Of Peace, he really was firing on all the cylinders, when he made those two. So many good songs on the pair of them.

Another stunner of a track is Beautiful Night, although I do not recall what album it is on. Another lovely, mellow and warm vocal from Paul, gorgeous piano and then a little left turn at the end of the song.

As for Pipes of Peace - that still is one of my favourite music videos to this day. Done by another artist and it could come across as overly sentimental, sugary sweet and a bit false - but in Paul's hands the message feels natural and heartfelt. A beautiful song and a beautiful promo.
