The Miracle Box set
Re: The Miracle Box set
I'd love to go to one of his concerts, but I don't think he's ever visited my neck of the woods.
And yeah, Abe is frigging' amazing! (And a very good singer too)
Re: The Miracle Box set
If I'm not mistaken, there was a 5 (or maybe even more) disc version of Pure McCartney released alongside the 2 disc version.Kes wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 6:08 pm I don't know about the tracklisting for Pure McCartney. An awful lot of B sides and album tracks on there. I prefer either Wingspan or All The Best, as Greatest Hits albums, myself.
I think if you put all his solo (post Beatles) hit singles on one collection, it'd fill up about five CDs, probably more.
Edit: I'm slightly mistaken, it was a 4-disc version.
Re: The Miracle Box set
Quite right. Looking though it, I count 32 tracks that I know to be A side singles, out of 57 tracks on the album.
Where's tracks like Young Boy, My Brave Face, Helen Wheels, How Many People, Figure Of Eight, Take It Away, Tug Of War. There's some excellent A sides, and he's left them off in favour of some stuff, not as good IMHO.
On the subject of Helen Wheels, the first time I met him, after his transport had turned up, he came across (actually making a bee-line for me) and asked if I had ever heard of the song, I said "Of course!". He pointed to his battered old Land Rover with the yellow painted wheel, and said "There she is! That's what I wrote the song about".

Yeah, he is not my cup of tea personally, but I cannot fault the richness in his vocals around the late 70s/early 80s period. I don't know any of his album back catalogue, but I have come across a few of his songs out of curiosity - and I just think he is quite underrated as a vocalist; I was actually quite shocked as I have always dismissed the man. He is one of those artists who people like to attack and knock (especially because of his openness about his Christianity), but they cannot argue with his longevity as an artist or his chart success throughout his career.WeeMann wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 6:06 pmI've seen Cliff live twice (my Mum is a huge fan) and I've not seen many artists who are better than him live. There is some cheese and some complete rubbish in his back catalogue, but like McCartney, he's been at it so long, the hit rate is still pretty high.MusicalProstitute wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 2:41 pmSame with Cliff Richard - some of his songs are easy to rip to shreds, but I tell you what that man had a damn fine voice back in the day (I am no Cliff fan but have recently heard some of his stuff and I thought his vocals quite beautiful).
On the topic of Cliff, I heard a wonderful, cleaned up version of him and Fred singing It's In Every One Of Us the other day and really noticed how their voices blended well together. Sickly song, sure...but nice to hear the passion in their vocals.

what essential parts are missing? For example, where it's the demo of Stealin'?!?!
they did more than they had to, finishing face it alone to single material. they didnt have to do that. ..........of course not! They're rich enough to do nothing for the rest of their lives. But if they release something they have to be open to critics. As simples as that!
creating enjoyable alternative versions of every track from session takes. They didnt have to but they did, and it made for a more pleasant listening experience. Total agree with you on this one. One of the best Queen releases for the last 25 years! And to me, that is what I want, and more. And for that I don’t mind spending money. And I think that I speak for a lot of Queen fans.
They spent around one year in the studio making the album, and it only sums up to one cd with a single version of each song! To me it seems poor!
Again, the content doesn’t justifies the amount of money they are asking now and I don’t want to spend it for this kind boxset.
I don’t care about the vinyl! They can sell it separately!
Video content in two formats!!! What a hell! And I have it already in GVH2.
Interviews-mainly I have it in Queen on Air!
The Original Album (Bob Ludwig 2011 master) – I have it already!
So again, to me the amount of money they are asking it isn’t wort it. And for what I have seen in the charts, I’m not the only one who thinks like that.
Re: The Miracle Box set
To try and put everything in context, AFTER they've released things like the NOTW, and Miracle boxsets, there has to be enough "interesting" album related unreleased material left for a career spanning boxset.
I'm not certain, but that might be where your 10-minute version of Stealin' is hiding.
Now, I often look on ebay, in case there's something I might be missing lurking about. I see components of the recent Miracle releases, going for absolutely silly money, because people suddenly realise something they now want, isn't available in large quantities. I guess that's the whole point of strictly limited issues of something. You snooze, you lose.

Re: The Miracle Box set
sums up the whole discussion for me
there's more to lose than just the music.
the book is stunning, absolutely stunning. a real gem in its own.
and the vinyl, I dont even have an LP player, but it is the original album as it was intended, and i will buy an lp player eventually (with the notw box i got an lp too, so it's kind of getting to a point where i need an lp player). i'm glad to be future proof on this one
the miracle is just all around a massively underrated album, and its easily in my top 3 queen albums. I'm a sucker for 80s pop / synth / rock Queen
Re: The Miracle Box set
Unlike the NOTW boxset, you've got The Miracle album as a gatefold sleeve, AND an extra track. Two things that make it unique.
I hear the arguments about price. A loaf of Lidl bread is 50p, a loaf of Warbertons, is a pound things cost money, and a Rolls Royce, is a lot more money, than a Skoda. Sometimes, things that are better, cost more.
Generally, supply is driven by demand. The more people want something,, versus the less of it available, the price goes up. That's why a blue Bo Rhap is worth four grand.
Manufacturing costs, band and company's profits, recommended unit price, they're all calculated. The band themselves, only get a cut of a product when it leaves the manufacturers, after that, resales, collectors shops, ebay, they get fuck all.
