This is another thing about both The Beatles and Queen: both bands had solo efforts which were all so different from each other, yet one can see the same influences in their music when they came together as a band.
I can honestly say I love most of Paul's solo catalogue, most of John's and a fair bit of George's (and his stuff with The Travelling Wilbury's). What a bloody talented and gifted bunch of men they were. It is actually quite breath-taking when one sits down and thinks about what they have given the musical world between them.

Beautiful Night is the closing track on Flaming Pie, I think. There's just so many of his solo songs to choose from, No More Lonely Nights, Live And Let Die, Back Seat Of My Car, Maybe I'm Amazed, Band On The Run.. You've got all the stuff he did with The Beatles, absolutely stunning, and then you've got a solo career, that's even more stunning.
I understand he might not be everyone's cup of tea, but to diss his work as boring, I wish I had his money and success for being that boring. By what action is saying, there must be a lot of ignorant people, who know fuck all about music and writing songs who buy his music, and I guess i must be one of them.

Ah, Flaming Pie is it? I shall have to dig out my McCartney albums later.
No More Lonely Nights is another beauty, for sure. Lovely little guitar outro too. Maybe I'm Amazed is an absolute classic. Live and Let Die is simply timeless, with that filmic and unforgettable musical riff.
No, I am gobsmacked that anyone could dismiss the man as boring. In fact, in terms of musicality, he is actually quite quirky and left field in many ways. People could say he wasn't the most showy and extravagant of live performers, sure - but that just was not him...and thank god; but boring he most certainly was not - one does not get to have a back catalogue like his if they are boring. The man's a musical genius and one-off. A legend in the full sense of the word.

I used to wonder how one bloke could come up with so many different ideas, not just ideas, but stunning melodies. "Goofing off" is what he calls it, and almost dismisses the talent, as a series of accidents. You can't really base a career like his as all being an accident
And often, it is just fucking around until you get three of four chords that really feel good together. But you've got to do that thousands of times, to get the start of one brilliant idea. That takes patience, and an extreme amount of talent.

Must also mention PMC's live concerts.
Seen him a couple of times, 2003 and 2015 or 16, and with a 3h+ no-stop show with so many hits covering different bands and decades he definitely deserves some respect.
(And with Abe on drums....)

When you consider Pure McCartney is a double CD compilation without a duff track on it, you realise what a huge hit rate he's had - and that's just from his solo career.
Re: The Miracle Box set
I've seen Cliff live twice (my Mum is a huge fan) and I've not seen many artists who are better than him live. There is some cheese and some complete rubbish in his back catalogue, but like McCartney, he's been at it so long, the hit rate is still pretty high.MusicalProstitute wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 2:41 pmSame with Cliff Richard - some of his songs are easy to rip to shreds, but I tell you what that man had a damn fine voice back in the day (I am no Cliff fan but have recently heard some of his stuff and I thought his vocals quite beautiful).
Re: The Miracle Box set
I don't know about the tracklisting for Pure McCartney. An awful lot of B sides and album tracks on there. I prefer either Wingspan or All The Best, as Greatest Hits albums, myself.
I think if you put all his solo (post Beatles) hit singles on one collection, it'd fill up about five CDs, probably more.

It may include album tracks and B sides, but as a collection it's great.Kes wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 6:08 pm I don't know about the tracklisting for Pure McCartney. An awful lot of B sides and album tracks on there. I prefer either Wingspan or All The Best, as Greatest Hits albums, myself.

I've got it, also got Wingspan and All The Best. Just looking at what I play the most.
