I think a lot depends on what you expect from a box set called 'Collector's Edition'.
I would say that The Miracle: Collector’s Edition does more or less what it suggests on the box cover: it brings together in one place a lot of Miracle-related music and promotional products that a collector would be interested in. And as a massive, massive bonus it also contains some real gems – principally, the work-in-progress stuff and the ‘new’ tracks. And I take the point about the uniqueness of the LP.
But if the words ‘box set’ make you think primarily of previously unreleased material, The Miracle: Collector’s Edition is likely to leave you feeling underwhelmed, especially if you are paying £150.
The problem is the lack of live material to take up a DVD and a couple of CDs. It means that the material they do have has to fill a lot of space. Yes, the book is nice and glossy but most of it relates to the five videos. I don't mind a few video-related photos but not a whole book. You can just watch the videos and the mini-documentaries. Compare it with the book that came with the News of the World box set, which is packed with great shots from their 1977–78 US and European tours.
Scandal on the DVD/BluRay exemplifies the problem.
It’s obvious from the audio commentary that it isn’t one of Roger’s favourites – either the song or the video. In fact, he is scathing about both. That’s fine and quite amusing when it’s part of a collection of seventeen songs on Greatest Video Hits 2, but less so when there are only five videos to watch – ie it's 20% of the total content. Turn to the relevant chapter of the book and we find his less than gushing remarks reproduced there as well.
Some people have suggested that Innuendo might be next for the box set treatment. If so, I think exactly the same issues will arise.

Re: The Miracle Box set
It's just a shame that to be "so" into the album, to buy the boxset, you've probably got 2/3 of it already on other formats. Hence the proportion of astounding stuff gets diluted into much smaller amounts.

I’ll snooze quietly until this boxset decreases the price until it reaches about half the price or even less.action wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 9:21 amsums up the whole discussion for me
there's more to lose than just the music.
the book is stunning, absolutely stunning. a real gem in its own.
and the vinyl, I dont even have an LP player, but it is the original album as it was intended, and i will buy an lp player eventually (with the notw box i got an lp too, so it's kind of getting to a point where i need an lp player). i'm glad to be future proof on this one
the miracle is just all around a massively underrated album, and its easily in my top 3 queen albums. I'm a sucker for 80s pop / synth / rock Queen

I’m not saying that the Vinyl was a bad release….I just implied that I don’t care about this kind of release. And they can still release it separately, for the fans that want to buy it. As simple as that.
I think that this kind of releases by Queen should targeted the general Queen fans, and also for the general public……even if I don’t believe that the general public will buy boxsets.
And I have the feeling that it’s not what is happening.
Releases like the “Queen Orb USB Gift Box” or the huge “Live At Wembley Stadium super deluxe boxed set” aren’t made for the general Queen fan, for obvious reasons.
What I’m trying to say is that this boxset IMO isn’t also a Queen fan friendly. To me this “Queen Collector’s Edition” should have been more a Queen vault release. Something like this:
CD1-Remastered album
CD2-4 The Miracle Sessions
CD5-Instrumentals and rarities….
And that to me that was quite enough and quite reasonable in terms of price. And I think it would made very happy much more Queen fans……

Ouch.....that isn't a very good rating

In my home country we called this kind of object something that “isn’t meat neither fish”.
Because if it’s supposed to be a total Collector Edition where it’s the Khashoggi's Ship (Deep Cuts Version-stand alone version), The Miracle (Classic Queen Edit), the I Want It All (Rocks Mix) and also The Invisible Man (1989 Fan Club Convention Message), and Dog With A Bone (1988 Fan Club Convention Message). Something like the Freddie Mercury Solo Collection.
And to me that is the main reason I don’t like this Album Boxsets Editions…..They are full of items that aren’t really attractive to most of Queen fans, mainly because they have bought them before in a different release, or either there isn’t enough of interesting audio material or are full of fillers and objects that most people don’t really care about……like fricking ballons!!!!

The problem is when you are buying a Rolls Royce and then it turns out to be a Skoda!!!

Dam….now I look like Shakira: Casio vs Rolex and Ferrari vs Twingo!!!

Re: The Miracle Box set
That says more about what you think of Queen, than anything else.
Re: The Miracle Box set
Nope..... It's says more about the general awful Queen products that have been released in the last 25 years.
To me, Queen is the best band ever that produced 15 very good albums.... I even like Hot Space!
But, has a Queen fan..... but not a collector, I have to say, theirs releases since Made in Heaven have been a little bit boring.... Except for 5 or 6 products.

Re: The Miracle Box set

The Appetite set was pretty solid to be honest, it was just the price tag that was an absolute joke. I waited and got a copy for about £40 and it was well worth it.
