musicalprostitute wrote:I saw a recent clip from one of the Melbourne gigs and I now think it is high time for Adam to drop the 'he's no Freddie' chat: fair enough, when they first started doing this it made sense to make some kind of statement; but five or six years of gigging together is surely long enough to stop bringing the Freddie factor into every single show.

From my point of view, I completely agree with you. And I did have the feeling, that the majority of the audience at the last Wembley-Show felt the same. You could really feel that, when Adam did his speech, and people weren't really cheering for Freddie. (I really doubt, it was, because they weren't Freddie-fans, but because Adam puts himself down - although he is clearly doing a great job). For people, who saw QAL before, that's not necessary and starts to feel wrong.
On the other hand, the speech felt necessary in Prague and Munich. I guess, there were more people, who hadn't seen them before.

Here is a review from Melbourne. The author found the speech "a relief, breaking down a barrier".

In the end, I hope, they (Adam) will stop the "No-Freddie"-speech at the European summer-tour. We know that by now...

The silly little speech should actually be 'I'm no Paul Rodgers', because he was the replacement for him, not for Freddie. No one could ever replace Freddie, even if reading LOL, sorry QOL these days, some people might think so.

A lot of people have never heard of Paul Rodgers or that he has toured with Queen, but everyone has heard of Freddie!

I'm sure that is true, but then I would not call them dedicated Queen fans. They may have realized that there were some Queen songs on the radio that they liked, and still like when they hear them, but they never went out of their way to really care about Queen or they would have paid better attention. Every radio station that played rock or classic rock talked about the upcoming Queen plus Paul Rodgers tour and played a song or two set up for the tour intro.

Even out in a rural part of my State in the lower mid-west, I heard the commercials for it.
.It is my uppermost hope that even histories' genius's lost their minds as they aged. I'd hate to think that I really am an idiot. sjm

Some PR songs he did with Free and Bad Company are staples on rock radio. I think he might be known for that more than you think.

Here is a nice and detailed review from Perth. I think, it’s realistic. Although Adam never reminds me of a „Disney Princess“.

Now I can out myself: No, I‘ve never heard of Paul Rodgers, before I searched on YouTube for Queen-videos. That was in 2015. I don’t think, he‘s really known in my country, at least not by people of my age. Out of interest I just checked Wikipedia and found out, that he, as well as Free or Bad Company, didn’t have hits here. One song in 1970 went to Number 5. Everything else was way down the charts. Looking at the charts positions here, he wasn’t even more successful than Adam (if the statistics are correct). I guess though, that he‘s known by dedicated rock-Fans. ;)
(Just some input, from a non-English speaking country.)
