The vinyl is no great shakes - if you have managed to pickup half decent first pressings, they aren't going to replace those on your turntable. The main reason to get this set is the book, which is rather fabulous.

Sir Didymus wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 2:05 pm I've been debating buying this for some time - possibly even parting with my "Complete Works" box-set to justify it.

But the apparent plans to bring out the Deagnosti collection in the UK, which would include all the studio albums AND the various live albums and compilations (inc. out of print albums like Wembley '86 and GH3) is making me think twice about it... as pretty as the coloured vinyl is, provided the magazine just bundles the existing sleeves without any customisations or 'lesser quality' artefacts, this might be a more justifiable way to hoover up the 2011 masters on vinyl at last.

I think the Innuendo and Made In Heaven albums are an improvement over their single vinyl previous issues.

Yes, I've been meaning to pick those ones up for years...

I've got a fairly decent set of original pressings for most of the albums - though a couple are a little more 'loved' than others, shall we say.

Probably the hardest one to get was MIH.

The cream vinyl goes for around £100 these days, and the single black vinyl is a LOT rarer than those.

I think on the original issue, there were only a couple of hundred pressed on black, and the fanclub got most of those, and then when they did the Parlophone reissues just before EMI went bust, MIH was in the last batch, and for some reason hardly anyone managed to get any of those. Only the quick, anyway.

My issue has always been that i like too many artists to devote myself full-time to collecting Queen and Queen alone. Consequently, as long as I've had one decent copy of each album, I've been pretty 'appy.

And maybe the Rainbow and Odeon live albums.

With Another World, you've got the choice of Picture disc, or Picture disc. I don't think anywhere in the world got a black vinyl of it. Not that I know of, anyway. Another nice one to try and find, is the full Five Live vinyl, that was issued in places like Greece and the Far East.

Forever, might be worth putting on your list too.

Impressive, short of a Japanese QII you have the best sounding Queen vinyl - in which case, i would hold off buying the Studio collection until you find a store/shop, like i did, that had a copy they had sat on their shelves for 18 months and bartering for a hefty discount.

I guess it often depends who has cut the masterplates.

On the old board we had a poster who was mad for Sheer Heart Attack, and had pressings from just about everywhere. He reckoned that the majority of original pressings were from The Mastering Lab motherplates. In that case, the only real variables are in the quality, and quantity of the actual vinyl used to make the disc.

In the case of Jazz, most of the ones I've got, UK, French, and USA, are from Sterling plates. I've also got a German copy, but that one doesn't carry the Sterling logo in the run off area. Much as though German pressings are generally pretty good, I think the Sterling cuts sound a bit better. The same is true with The Game, the Allen Zentz cuts issued here and in the USA, are the best I've heard of that album

The best times for vinyl were the mid 70s until the late 80s. Vinyl never was better sounding than in those days. The experience and the people who had that, went lost in the 90s with most factories getting closed.
When I compared "new vinyl" with my german EMI originals, not only the old ones still sounded better. Also the covers had a higher quality, cause the new ones had obviously been made from scans, looking quite grainy.
Queen vinyl isn't rare, before Corona I would see lots of good copies on record fairs. And obviously there is a lot of replenishment, sad as it is, not only rock stars die, also fans and collectors follow the rules of nature.... :(
