The use of "fishes" when referring to multiple "fish" in the Bible, is an anomoly. The word "fishes" is normally used as a verb, as in "the man fishes for fish".
Ok, thanks. I will try to keep that in mind. Since I‘m a proud owner of a big aquarium, it feels weird to me to say just „fish“. There are different kind of fish 8-) .
In german it‘s „der Fisch“ (singular) and „die Fische“ (plural).

Or, to quote Roy Scheider in Jaws " I think we're going to need a bigger boat!" 😂

"Ich denke, wir brauchen ein größeres Boot!"

No, it was definitely a fish - like a big goldfish.

On that note, are Koi Carp merely shy goldfish?

English isn't the most logical language. We did have a long thread on the language on an old version of the board, specifically discussing these kind of things for non-native speakers.

Yeah, easy to tell, one looks like a fish, the others are birds.

Don't know that they're particularly coy, but as goldfish go, they're like radioactively deformed big ones.

Our cat was very interested in the fishes in my sister’s aquarium. Until it fell into the water at one point. After that, the interest was completely gone forever.
Maybe she tried to find Nemo...and then stopped caring.

Probably the only song on Innuendo I’d skip, if it wasn’t for the fact my girlfriend is a cat lover and finds it hilarious that Freddie did a song about his cat weeing on the sofa.

Brian meowing on the Red Special does make me smile though.
