Freddie's Heart

Every once in a while I discover something new about Freddie that further shows the immense size of his heart. I have no sources to back this up other than a Reddit post (and the below picture), but in 1987 Freddie was contacted by a family asking if he would please visit Colin who was battling cancer. Instead of visiting him, Freddie decided to record the song "Keep Smiling" just for him (eventually included in The Solo Collection). Sadly, Colin did eventually lose his fight, but he was buried with the tape. I just think this was such a beautiful thing for Freddie to do and it must have meant so much to Colin.

I'm sure many of you already knew this story, but I wanted to share it for anyone who, like me, hadn't. Also, if anyone has more information, I'd love to hear it. We could also share other stories about Freddie's humanity. I'm sure there's loads we could talk about!

Man, didn't expect complete silence. Lol

Anyway...

Been shared before elsewhere, but a worthy addition to this discussion would be the Christmas gift Freddie prepared for his good pal Elton John before his death. No matter how many times I hear Elton tell this story (and he has on more than one occassion), it always moves me.

Those are testaments to the mans compassion and generosity. I'm actually crying, but in a good way. Thanks for sharing this, Frank.

That's a really nice story I didn't know yet. Thanks for sharing!

It's always great if you not just like someone's music, but also the personality behind that music. In the best case (like with Freddie) both are amazing and little stories like these show his character and heart.

Living in Munich for 10 years it's still so weird for me imagining that at some time before I was even born, he also lived in that city. It's such a shame that nothing is left of the Musicland Studios where he/they recorded...I was there once, but there is only the entry of the house to see, nothing else.

It’s true and I’ve always loved that. Is that Colin? I never got to see a photo before.

Yes, that's him. Only found it a little while ago. It's amazing the things that pop up out of the blue. So glad I found it.

Yes, thank-you for posting. I just read he liked to dress up as Freddie, and he was 26 years old. I’ve read long ago that some were angry the song was in the boxset, as it was a song personally for Colin.
