Brian May told to butt out of the badger battle

This is the place for topical debate and discussion about anything in the world (non-Queen related).

Yeah I miss it too, but then I was on a protest the other day and the march drummers kept drumming WWRY. In terms of great music that stays around, regardless of what Brian himself happens to be doing these days, maybe he's done enough. ;)

Yes, maybe he feels that he has done enough.. because if you are a musician, and you have a lot of ideas, you want to write things down and make songs.

But he has written so many songs, and perhaps he has now come to a point where he has lost his inspiration to write music.. maybe he feels that there is nothing more he wants to create.. that is natural and I understand if that is the situation..

The badger cull has been postponed until next year. Great news for mycoplasma bovis! (Which is not the same as mycoplasma tuberculosis, because it has a different name.)

It's good news, but you do wonder how the Government makes these decisions. There was surely more vocal opposition to tripled tuition fees, which made no difference whatsoever, so I don't believe they have made this decision based on protests. So was it that they knew the cull was stupid and were willing to backtrack should it be very unpopular, from the start? Or because one protester is very famous?

Maybe they decided the farmers were getting an easy ride and needed to suffer a bit more like everyone else.

By waiting until the summer to make a decision, the only losers are the farmers. Badgers will be neither culled nor vaccinated. My first post was supposed to be facetious, but there was a point to it. At the moment, badgers and M.bovis are fine, farmers and cows are suffering. Cull badgers and that reverses completely. Vaccinate, and cows, badgers and farmers are all fine. Do nothing, and cows and farmers continue to suffer while badgers are still being threatened.

Of course, it's ridiculous, in fact to postpone makes it far easier for a cull to be restarted quietly at a later date. But, in this instance the go ahead was given and all appeals lost so quickly that the protests have been pretty desperate, anything to stop an immediate cull. A temporary reprieve gives the anti-cull movement time to get a proper vaccination argument in place. At the moment it's both sides slinging mud and seeing what sticks.

It's Brian's website, his page so he can write what the hell he likes on there. I don't always agree with everything he says, but it's his page.

I agree, 100%. Brian doesn't belong to his fans. He is a human being just like everyone else and has rights, just like everyone else. He can do what he damn well pleases and if the fans don't like it, tough. I applaud him for what he's doing and I have considered contacting him in regards to another battle but since it's outside of the UK, he may or may not want to be involved. But, because we are in such a hurry to push this through, there probably wouldn't be time.
