The Russian minister of defence has dismissed the claim as 'nonsense' according to Sky. Keeping everything crossed for a peaceful resolution... :(

Just watching the press conference with Putin, he says "Russian forces have not taken part in operations in Crimea" so he wants us to believe that all these helicopter gun ships flying around, the hundreds of personel carriers, the thousands of heavily armed, well instructed forces are all local militia? errr trying pulling the other other one Putin, he's just trying to distance Russia from any agression that takes place, very crafty of him, but he fools no one.

Remember Victoria Newland and her 'Fuck the EU' comment? Some more interesting stuff...

So were the revolutionaries in Kiev financed by Washington?

This was the claim by Putin's government, the pro-Russia side of the Ukrainian population, and what was said on Russia Today. This film may be what they based their opinions on, or perhaps there could be a grain of truth in the claim. It's certainly popular among conspiracy theorists to say that Washington funded and helped start off the Arab Spring, and getting Ukraine fast-tracked away from Russia into the EU and from there into NATO would certainly help them from a strategic viewpoint with regards to using Ukraine as a buffer zone against Russia- some of the Washington hawks are still fighting the cold war, don't forget. What's put the spanner in the works is Putin moving in to Crimea under the guise of protecting ethnic Russians and the naval base there.

I find it interesting that Cameron is perfectly OK with allowing Scotland a referendum on staying in the UK- allowing the possibility of our own country to be split up- but refuses to accept a similar referendum for the ethnic Russians in Crimea to leave Ukraine for Russia, because he, like Obama, doesn't want to see Ukraine split up. Double standards, possibly? Hmmm...

Seems to me I had read some news headlines a few days ago where someone mentioned this and was asking questions. It was a headline next to quite a few others about all manner of things and I was looking for something else. I wish I had clicked on the one mentioning this instead of the one I went there to find.

And, yes, double standards is right!

Putin makes me laugh, he says his forces will protect Russian people in UA, but every news footage i've seen this week as been Russian thugs beating up Ukrainians, it seems its them that needs protection.

Not all Russians are in favour of Putin's actions, at the biggest anti Putin rally for 2 years in Moscow, where Ukrainian & Russian flags few together, an estimated 80,000 turned out to protest.
