Got to say, I love much of their 80s music, some of which are my favorites. :lookround:

brian's fault. not enough blues guitar

fred's voice was never better though

The drum sound on some tracks was too synthetic. The 80s albums has its moments and some great hits though.

If there were more songs like IWIA, HTF, IAHL, POTU etc., the 80s would be fantastic for Queen.

If I have to choose two albums, the 80s albums don't stand a chance against the 70s.

But if you ask me which hit songs are my favourites, then I would probably choose from the 80s instead.

My opinion is: The albums were better in the 70s, while the catchy hits were better in the 80s.

But if you take the best songs from the last 3 80s albums and make them into 1 album, it would be a hell of an album. That is why Greatest Hits II is a damn good collection.

yes but where are NOTW's votes?

I'm surprised it isn't higher. I chose ADATR and The Game but then regretted it. I would replace NOTW instead of The Game. Two of my very favorite recordings..."It's Late" and "Spread Your Wings". That's why I'm quite happy with Queen On Air. The 1977 session is fab.

Yes I do too. I like lots of songs but for me the full albums don't hold up as well as the others. Still I remember being 14 and thinking "The Works" was the greatest thing since Jesus.

The Miracle, for me.

Hugely, hugely underrated IMO. Free from constraints of fit-the-movie AKOM and the obvious melancholy that heavily influenced Innuendo, TM was arguably Queen at their peak in terms of an experienced, creative unit making an album pretty much free from constraints.

It feels like their freshest album, and it's clear that it was made with enthusiasm of the band deciding creatively it was the right time to make it after deciding to take time off.

You described that album perfectly. I love it, if I were to rate Queen albums from the 80s...it would be the very album I would rate most. To me the album describes many human emotions and just raw at times. I love it, it's probably the Queen album I play the most often.

There is so much grit and determination of the later material which is often ignored, especillay over here. I couldn't imagine Queen without POTU, WIAWI, IWIA...to name 3.
I love the pop side as Queen as much as the heavier, darker themes.

This.

Most of my favourite Queen songs come from the 80s, but at the same time their albums lost some consistency.

I've always thought The Miracle gets a lot more hate than it deserves because there are some stellar songs on there, but as a complete album it seems like it's lacking something.

Probably it is lacking a nice simple piano ballad?

It's nothing tangible I could put my finger on. Just as a complete album it seems like it's less than the sum of its parts.

For me, Queen II and A Day At The Races. Both of these albums show Queen's mastery of multi-tracked vocal harmonies and that essential never-to-be-repeated 'Queen sound'.

ADATR is my number one since I was ten years old. I still remember sneaking into the room (my stepdad wasn't keen on me using his stereo lol) and quietly putting on headphones and slipping the LP on the stereo and just getting lost in the music

There is no doubt that Queen ll is ranked as the best album in this forum. Poll after poll has ended with the album on first place.
